Center of the Caern

This is the central point of the 30-meter-wide clearing. The ground is a mixture of dark, rich, muddy soil mixed with clay, though there is an occasional patch of grass. At the center rests a large white boulder, immovable even by the strongest crinos. The boulder is shot through with streaks of quartz that produces scintillating colors when light strikes it just right. It is, for lack of a wholly adequate word, beautiful.
Around you, twenty yards in every direction, stretches the caern. To the southeast, a waterfall plummets over the edge of the chasm into a small pool in the caern; nearby, to the southwest, steam comes from cracks in the ground, perhaps some of the same water. Northwest, a rocky spar juts out of the ground at a low angle, showing a sloping but smooth top. The chasm walls narrow a bit to the northeast, causing some of the mist to swirl in that area.

Sometime over the last couple of years, a teen girl with a poor attitude and a hair-trigger temper has grown up, and matured into a young woman. With a poor attitude and a hair-trigger temper. KL is a little over five-foot tall - no late growth spurt for her - and slimly built. She moves quickly, and is rarely still for any length of time. Her natural balance and co-ordination are clearly evident in her movement, but any hint of grace is smothered with her air of irritation, hostility and restrained aggression. She manages to turn even simple activities - like ordering fries - into not particularly subtle attempts to provoke fights.
Her mousy-brown hair hangs loose around her shoulders, the front falling to frame her face. Her hair looks like it has been cut recently, and by someone with at least a little skill. She's really quite attractive, perhaps not a pin-up, but far from ugly, with a cute upturned nose and wide expressive hazelnut eyes. However, any level of appeal her physical appearance might have is swamped by the anger in her gaze and the sullen set of her mouth. She stares at people - particularly people she doesn't know - with a cold fury, as if trying to decide exactly which way to kill them.
KL has pale skin decorated in two places - on her left upper arm is a largish tattoo of something that looks a little like a bear, with its jaws spread wide and slaver falling in droplets. It has the words "No Mercy" written with gusto beneath it. On her right shoulder-blade, if visible, is a second tattoo, two-inch-square, of a winged horse. There isn't much in the way of excess flesh on her, her cheekbones are clearly visible and her bare arms have a tight musculature that speaks of regular and plentiful exercise.
She is wearing a pair of blue jeans that look brand-new, and have a designer label clearly visible on the rear, a pair of combat boots that also look new. On her upper half she is sporting a rather snazzy black leather jacket over a clean new white t-shirt.
Around her neck hangs a pendant, an oval disk made of some kind of bone. It looks like it's been decorated with carved designs, which are somewhat hard to make out on casual inspection. The pendant is hung on a leather thong.
On the back of her right hand, the legend "Be Nicer To People" is etched in black pen.

Alesia's long dark black hair has been pulled back into a pony tail that comes down about half way down her back. She's fair-skinned and there's a bit of firmness to her jaw line. Her brown eyes bracket a thin lipped mouth and a smallish nose. Alesia's frame is looks strong but lithe, while still maintaining a hint of classical features. There's almost a sadness in her eyes and her mouth looks like smiles might be foreign to it. She stands at just about five feet tall. She has no piercings or jewelry.
Alesia is wearing a simple shirt made from poorly cured leather, in that it has splotches but looks flexible, worn but sturdy. She's wearing pants made of the same leather, a bit worn as well and are a tad splotchy on the colors but flexible and sewn together with sinew. Her shoes are a pair of sandals made with wood, leather and some cloth like rope.

Morning, out at the caern, sees KL, the Black Fury Ahroun, involved in a delicate and somewhat unusual task. She's using what is basically a wooden scraper to remove the top level of mud from a patch in the caern, and shovelling the spoil into a hessian bag, open beside her. She seems quite cheerful, despite the dreadful weather, humming quietly to herself.

There are definate signs of others having worked at the same task over the last few days and in a fairly systematic way. Alesia comes down from the edge of the caern, in glabro, with a piece of wood and a large flat piece of leather apparently intent on working on cleaning the caern some more this morning. She pauses as she sees KL and says, "Ah, hey there." And gives a little wave as she comes down to the center of the Caern.

"Alesia," KL says, lifting her head and grinning at the Theurge. "How are you? I heard about...all this." She gestures at the caern. "And I was a bit worried about you." She waves her wooden trowl. "Doing my bit!"

Alesia sighs and moves over to KL's side, "It's a pain. It is annoying. But it only stings a bit to clean this stuff." She pauses and peers at KL, "Why were you worried about me? I'm not the one who broke the rules?"

"No! But I heard Kavi shot at you," KL says. "Anyway, worrying about you is one of my natural states. Has been since we found you." She smiles at her. "You can ignore it now, but I still worry."

Alesia nods a little bit and starts to work, "You should worry about Kavi. I think if Vera-rhya has her way, he'll be dead soon. I'm a tad annoyed everyone is focusing on Kavi when the spirits are mad about this stuff." She gestures at the ground, "All those who brought weaver toys into the caern need to be punished. Especially those who ignored my orders to get the stuff out of the caern. I'm tired of being treated like a cub when I give orders as a Guardian."

KL nods firmly. "I presume the matter is with the philodoxes? I know it was an emergency and stuff, but this..." she gestures around the caern at the cleanup operation. "...is inexcusable. Anyway, I wanted to ask you a theurgy favour. I wondered if you'd heard of anyone willing to teach the Rite of Talisman Dedication."

Alesia sighs and sits back then says, "I did talk with Blackriver, and a few others but they don't seem to... I mean, I don't have faith that they will consider the seriousness of this." She shakes her head, then tilts it, "I could teach that to you, if I wasn't kind of in the middle of teaching Melodie Sense Wyrm. Do you need to learn it yourself?"

The Ahroun nods. "Yes, that's the idea. I'm sick of wearing the same clothes for months at a time, or not being able to shift when I'm not," she says. "I think I will be rather unhappy if they don't take it seriously. To a bad extent. Like I will start throwing philodoxes through walls." Totally matter-of-fact.

Alesia thinks about this then says, "I may want to speak with Jamethon-Rhya. I'm so angry that I'm pondering asking him to make a few orders about who can enter the caern or something." She sighs, again, "Anyway, it's all a mess. As you can see." She gestures at the ground, "And... I'd teach you as soon as I'm done with Melodie, if you'd like?"

"That would be great," KL says. "Is there anything I can teach you in return. I'm not sure how the spirits would react to you learning Ahroun gifts, which is mostly what I know, but perhaps with you being a Guardian, one or two might be useful?"

Alesia considers this then says, "Maybe there is a tribal gift you could teach me? I honestly don't know what you know. I've never really talked to you about this before."

KL laughs. "Oh, maybe there is! And it would be useful to you. Can you enhance your senses? You know, hear better, or see better, or smell better?" she asks. "I can do that, and that's one of our tribal gifts."

Alesia ahs and smiles, "See, now that would be handy when I'm on patrol or trying to find something. I have Minerva to help me now, but... being an owl she is a tad limited in things. So being able to heighten my senses would be good. Still, I am almost more interested in learning rituals than gifts at this point."

"I'm not really rituals girl," KL comments. "I tend to forget to sit still for long enough, or get bored and swear at people." She brushes her hair back behind her ear, leaving a muddy trail across her cheek. "Are you allowed to go off the bawn ever, by the way?"

Alesia goes back to working, scraping soil into her piece of leather, "I can, but only when I get someone to patrol for me. Jamethon-rhya let me go out on a um... a..." She flushes, she actually blushes, "A date with Theo... when I got Melodie to watch things for me. But I can't go out very long."

"Well, why don't I repay you with some spells of patrolling for you?" KL asks. "I can patrol as well as the next person. And now it's been some time since I committed the crime of the century, I can't believe that anyone would object." She too goes back to scraping - a job that she's surprisingly good at.

Alesia thinks a bit then nods, "That'd be great. I wouldn't ask for it too much, just... I like Theo and... we went out to eat and saw a movie. It was... very nice." She seems uneasy about talking about her date with Theo, and works all that harder. "KL? Do you think I should stop being a Guardian? I mean, what is the point if no one listens to me?"

"I don't think you should stop," KL says, with a nod. "Caring is more important than anything else. OK, who do you want me to hit for you?" She looks enthusastic. "I can hit them until they start listening."

Alesia eyes KL, "Really? Cause... I might take you up on that. That snotty Glass Walker elder had me about ready to pop. I ordered the body of the traitor out of the caern and said it could be tainted or a trap, and she went off on me about how dead bodies aren't tainted. This of course as I was being told /other/ bodies were blowing up. I mean, the traitor might not have been the mastermind behind the attack, and what if his body was a trap? We didn't know. And then when I told her to get the weaver things out of the caern..." She shakes her head, "Plus some others, but... that elder should know. I mean, her tribemates shot guns in the caern, I saw at least one cell phone in the caern, and..." She shakes her head, "No, don't go beat on her but... let's wait and see what the half moons do. If they do nothing I may have to rething things."

"I guarded the body, of the traitor-thing," KL says, with a grimace. "That was a fucking boring job. More dull than this." She waves her wooden trowel. "Your other option is to get the Sept Alpha, or even better, the Warder involved. I mean, the Philodoxes should crucify - for the disobedience, more than for the weaverthing."

Alesia nods, in apparent full agreement, "Yes, you're right I think but... I doubt the others will see it that way. If I hadn't been so busy guarding the Caern I might have challenged each of them then and there. I'm not afraid to rip some people apart myself, you know. And I'm just getting so pissed off about this all."

"Do it, then," KL says. "Next time you get in that same situation, stick that pokeypole of yours through someone." She grins. "You can apologise later if you kill them. But even maiming should get the message across."

Alesia nods, "I would have, if I hadn't really thought that there was about to be an attack on the caern. The last thing I wanted to be doing was fighting with our own when an attack hit. So I pushed it down and ignored it while I tried to stay on guard. The hard part about being a guardian is you have to put the Caern ahead of yourself."

KL nods. "Yeah, I bet. OK, well don't be afraid to call on the rest of us for support if you need it. Or injure people afterwards." She looks reflective. "Does Theo make you smile inside?" she asks. "It's just, neither Alex or Dre do for me. I mean, sometimes I think I feel something like that, but that's just a part of having sex, I gather."

Alesia hesitates then says, "All.... all he's done so far is kiss me on the cheek. We haven't even kissed on the lips yet." She admits a tad sheepishly, "I... I want to go slow. I'm afraid I'll hurt him or... or I mean, with everything else... before. I just don't want to..." She seems to be rambling, stammering. Then she looks away, "He makes me smile when he's around."

"Good," KL says. "You get to pick the pace. Me, I'm upping the pace a bit. I know what my life expectancy is, and I've got stuff to do." She pauses. "Some of it becoming more urgent."

Alesia looks back at KL, and softly asks, "KL? What... are you talking about? What... are you going to do?"

"Let you in on all my secret plans?" KL asks, with a grin. "Oh, well, I'm planning on having a baby at some point in the near future. And I'm very keen on self-improvement and advancement." Her smile becomes conspiratorial.

Alesia nods, "I've been trying to improve myself too. But I don't think I'm ready to try to have a baby. I... I don't even know if I can have a baby, KL." She admits, "But that's good for you. I hope someday, maybe not that far away, to try to challenge for Fostern. Maybe... maybe in about a year, if things go well." She admits softly, letting KL in on her own plans.

"Good for you," KL says, with a nod. "You've got a better life expectancy than me, and you're much younger. Take your time about everything. Move when it feels right." She pauses. "Everything is saying "go now" to me."

Alesia nods at that, "Best to listen to your inner voice. For me, I've got a whole bunch of inner voices. But it's hard when they don't always agree, you know?" She offers a shrug and keeps working at scraping muck, "I'll let you know as soon as I've gotten Melodie taught and we can start on helping you learn Talisman Dedication, right?"

"Right," KL says, returning her attention to the muck-raking. "Thanks, Alesia. And don't forget to ask whenever you need a break from patrolling."
